1.
I remember growing up, Mortal Combat without the blood. Holding hands with Rebecca Thom, hiding from her alcoholic mom. Chorus: I was growing up in a poor kids millennia. Riding bikes through the neighborhood, staying up just to see if we could. The football kids they were always mean, you be Magneto and i'll be Wolverine. Chorus Now I feel like a boring man, who just wants to go back again. Stay up late with my best friend, singing songs by Boys 2 Men. Chorus x2
2.
Is this the end? What are we gonna tell the family and the kids? What happened to all the promises that were made between me and you? Chorus: Cause this is just like, just like death. I remember the kid who protected his mother from his father's fist. What happened to him? Did he grow up just to be the same man he was fighting? Chorus x2 Bridge: I've tried and tried to make it right for you and me both day and night, tried and tried to make it right. It never seems to be enough for you and me or anyone, maybe I just need to let you go. Chorus x4
3.
I heard you crying in the middle of the night, I wanted to save you but I was a child, and when we found you it was me that said. Chorus: It's all my fault, it's all my fault. She was the one who was good to me, so I gave her my name and a wedding band, but in the end she had to walk away. Chorus Don't come around here and start blaming me or i'll circle the wagons and make you bleed, but you should know you finally heard it from me. Chorus x2
4.
Momma 04:27
I was six years old looking out the window. My brother said stay close if you go. In the open field we rode the big wheel. Till I got stung by a bee and I ran home to Momma, Momma. I met a beauty queen in biology. I could make her laugh but she'd make me cry. Graduation day was out of the way. She said we should spend time apart, so I ran home to Momma, Momma. I ran home. In the hospital bed everything has been said. I don't know how to get home, to Momma, to Momma. Home to Momma.
5.
Tonight 05:15
Hold me close, thats what you said, driving away early in the morning. It's been a long day but it's gonna be okay, as you're walking up in the driveway. Chorus: Tonight, let me be your man, tonight, let me hold your hand. Don't forget the words in the frame we put on the wall for our anniversary. You are the Beauty and I am the Beast but do you still believe in me? Chorus: Tonight, let me be your man, tonight, let me hold your hand, and walk with you in darkness thats keeps living in this land. Till the morning i'll be listening, tonight. Bridge: I will storm the castle with my sword in hand. I will fight the dragon and bring you home again. Because you are my true love, you're worth dying for. You help me remember what i'm living for. Chorus: Tonight, let me be your man, tonight, let me hold your hand, and walk with you in darkness that keeps living in this land, the broken pieces we will find and put them back again, just hold on tight to the light of the morning. Till the morning i'll be listening, tonight.

Alone 03:21
I woke up this morning and went outside, stood around to wait for you. But when I didn't see you coming I went back inside, I just wanna be where you are. Chorus: I never wanna be alone, I'd rather be where you are. Looking out the window you drive away. I walk around this house for what seems like days. I try to do my best to keep the strangers away. But sometimes I feel so old. Chorus x2 Finally you get back and i jump in your car. You could drive forever my friend. Just never take me to that haunted place, I just wanna be where you are. Chorus x2

about

Native Memphian Joshua Andrew Cosby writes and sings songs that take the simple pleasures of life,
love, family, and friends, and turn them over onto their underbelly, exposing what’s there to a pure and
gentle light that he is uniquely gifted to shine. He has been doing so for upwards of 10 years as a
founding member of Star & Micey, and more recently, his dog Black Bettie and her fierce, whimsical
independence inspired him to hunker down and make his first proper solo record. Spurred on by friends
and collaborators across the community, his faith swelled that this new collection of songs could be
something worth sharing. The album includes a track with a Nintendo 8-bit element, one about Cosby’s
first real friendships and adventures growing up in a trailer park in the Raleigh area of Memphis, one told
from the perspective of an unnamed female narrator, and the album's title track, “Black Bettie” — Black
Bettie is out later this year, and, in anticipation of its release, Cosby will be performing around Memphis
throughout the Summer, and will embark upon a house show tour in the Fall.- Connor Crawford
